    Ålvik, Norway

  • Situated on the waterfront of Ålvik, Norway on the Hardangerfjord, this work is installed on a found metal structure which would have been used by fishing ships. The installation responds to the conditions of light, wind, sea, and atmosphere; it was visible throughout the day, evening, and at night, transmuting the half light of the bright summer nights through the translucent fabric.

The imagery continues my investigation of the Fresnel lens found in lighthouses. Here, the lenses become misshapen beacons, caught somewhere between the nostalgic past and the current, where they are warped, digitized, glossy, and futuristic.

Pinched and stretched to the point of breaking, they are remade as futuristic arrangements in virtual space, questioning the Cartesian logic of the grid and mapping virtual space overtop of the physical environment.

This work was produced while in residence at Kunstnerhuset Messen in July 2022.
